I encourage you to watch this 14 minute film so you understand more about what is going on in the Middle East right now and what has contributed to riots and bloodshed at an increasing number of American embassies around the world.
The film below is clearly low-budget religious/political satire of some previously unknown guy's imagining. It was made some time ago and nobody took interest in it, not even the typically voraciously satirical English speaking internet, until at least Sept. 11, 2012, when someone decided to translate it into Arabic and make it go viral on the Arabic internet.
After watching this clip, people will probably realize that there are two parties who 'won' when this blew up. The producer, Sam Bacile, got his wish of wanting to shine a light on Islamic absurdity and create a critical discussion of religious violence and it's roots. I don't know enough about the life and times of Mohammed to know if any of this film is wrapped in reality, but the point was to make people discuss it. Success, Mr. Bacile.
The second winner here is anyone with a political agenda to tear down American foreign policy in the 2nd decade of the 21st century. While that obviously wasn't the intent of the film nor a reasonable prediction of it's impact, people are now using this as a tool of hate and labeling it as a national American production in a succeeding effort to attack America abroad. Islamic terrorists with anti-American agendas, political groups and parties at home and abroad juxtaposed to American foreign policy, and the Russian, Iranian, North Korean, Syrian, Pakistani, and Chinese governments are all getting their jollies off on the ensuing international fallout.
One thing is for certain. Anyone that acts violently to this or any other film, is the primary source of pain and suffering. Of course, these people will externalize their motivations to the film, but that's the same as David Berkowitz saying the dog made me do it. By physically manifesting your disagreement with an author accusing you of violence, oppression, and hypocrisy you become the very thing you rage against and provide support to an argument people were oblivious to.
